My favourite rakuten (and store) is W Closet. Yesstyle can also provide cute items, but can cost a bit. Taking the slightly more alternative/expensive route as many have offered is rakuten. It's great when there's a 'bohemian revival' as all the floaty dresses you have ever wanted are for sale! Winter is fantastic as there are many cheap knits & cardigans. I don't know where you are, but places like ASOS, F21, H&M and Miss Selfridge have items that can be used for mori. The same can be said for eBay, but it's a bit harder to find anything to be honest! Just searching for mori brings up quite an extensive search, but more refined searches (especially for cotton smocks, vintage cotton nighties etc) have a plethora of options. Okay- probably not much use as you have already tried thrift shopping, but it was my favourite place to find pieces! I found that only going on the odd occasion didn't bring up much for me! Another key point with thrift stores are that they are a great source for accessories- you may not find that adorable cotton shift you are pining for, but small items like stoles, scarves and collars may be in abundance! I do understand the issue with clothing being very 'grandma' though- You could try to steer toward plain coloured dresses and knits? The thing I have discovered about thrift shopping though, is that a certain amount of frequency is needed. Like you, thrift stores were my main port of call. I live in New Zealand, so when it comes to limited shopping options- I hear you loud and clear! Even Japan has seen a decline in mori stores, which means few expensive brands are left. It appears I have been summoned by /u/cosmospolitan ! Just check if they ship outside of Japan. Oh, and sleeves and trouser legs might be a bit shorter than what we're used to with western clothes, so best to keep that in mind as well.Īnd I also recommend surfing mori-girl shops on Rakuten! There's a whole lot of them there and most of them are really reasonably priced. I second what /u/Phosphate-3 said, Japanese clothes are sized a bit differently from western clothes (I'm a size XS-S in western clothing but M-TM (Tall M) in Japanese), so be sure to keep an eye on the measurements of stuff you buy online. My style does skew a bit more towards the "grandma" and “hokkori shuufu” side of the line though, so what I gravitate towards isn't a super traditional mori-girl style. I went a bit crazy shopping when I was in Japan at the beginning of the year, so I've managed to amass a few Ehkä Söpö and SM2 (they're a few of my most favourite brands) pieces too. Most of my wardrobe has been pieced together over a long, long time from bits I've found in local shops and thrift stores and handmade pieces I've sewn up myself.
